– Alternatives to single-use plastics were discussed, and steps individuals can take to address the problem were explained.
– Prominent figures including Dr. Umair Ansari, Dr. Pervaiz Amir, Syed Akhtar Meer, Ali Hassan Sajid, and others attended the webinar.
– The administrator highlighted the urgency of taking timely steps to tackle plastic pollution, given its environmental, social, economic, and medical impacts.
– Alarming statistics were shared, such as the purchase of one million plastic bottles every minute and the use of up to 5 trillion plastic bags worldwide each year.
– Global cooperation and commitment to sustainable development goals were emphasized by Dr. Umair Ansari.
– The Pakistan Development Forum aims to inform people about the issue and empower them to take action by following SDGs 13-17 guidelines.
– Plastic pollution was described as a serious crisis threatening the environmental system, human health, and the planet’s sustainability.
– Calls were made to governments, civil society, and the private sector to unite and take steps to address the plastic pollution crisis.
– Harmful toxins released from burning or disposing of single-use plastic pose risks to human health and biodiversity.
– The resolution passed at the webinar proposed conducting environment-friendly awareness sessions under the supervision of the Sindh Boys Scout Association and environmentalist Dr. Pervaiz Amir.
– The sessions will be held monthly at the Gulistan Scout Training Center to raise public awareness and address environmental threats.
